MEDEA. International Interdisciplinary Symposia on Art, Science and Technology

The International Interdisciplinary Symposia on Art, Science and Technology MEDEA have a special place in the space of European culture for over 10 years. This year’s meeting of artists from the Euroasian region was entitled MEDEA 2021. Mutations.

The international conference that was held again in Greece gathered scientists and artists in interdisciplinary space which was allowing not only the exchange of experiences, but most important of all it was enabling the search for non-standard connections between distant areas of knowledge and culture. It is already a tradition that the exchange of theoretical knowledge is accompanied by many exhibitions that are presenting the achievements of contemporary artists in the fields of interdisciplinary graphics, spatial installation, animation, architecture and design. In this year’s edition of the MEDEA Symposium there were five conference panels associated with art, science, social sciences and economics.

A special place for experiencing art was the space of the accompanying exhibitions: Ex Machina and Syntopia-Noesis.Ex Machina 3 (curators: Arkadiusz Marcinkowski, Mariusz Szajda) is a combination of two artistic concepts: Project Suitcase (curator: Zbigniew Szot) and Project Kafka. Words and Faces (curator: Zbigniew Bajek). The first of them is an artistic answer to the so unreal need of world’s exploration in the age of Covid 19. The works of 23 artists from Poland, Germany, Chechia, Georgia and Japan (amongst others: A. Banachowicz, A. Marcinkowski, A. Guskos, D. Aleksidze, Z. Janáček, M. Sibinský, M. Jarmołowicz, R. Jundo, Z. Bajek, M. Osmycki, Y. Saegusa, Z. Szot, Z. Wiatr, J. PalkaA. Marcinkowski, A. Guskos, D. Aleksidze, Z. Janáček, M. Sibinský, M. Jarmołowicz, R. Jundo, Z. Bajek, M. Osmycki, Y. Saegusa, Z. Szot, Z. Wiatr, J. Palka) are taking us to the inaccessible world of not only mental, but most importantly emotional travel. The wide range of various forms of communication is by the multiplicity of artistic paths allowing the access to the deepest recesses of the world, not only of the material but most importantly of the spiritual. Similar boundary breaking in a wide context can be found in Project Kafka. Words and Faces. Amongst the works of distinguished Polish artists are the works of A. Banachowicz, A. Markiewicz, G. Nowicki and Z. Szot. The main theme of the third edition of the Syntopia Exhibition is the notion of Noesis that is recalling directly to the thought that is discovering the world of ideas. Amongst the works selected to the exhibition by the jury were the creations of A. Marcinkowski, M. Miłowska,  H. Yu, R. Szrajber, D. Zawojska-Kuriata, R. Nagay and I. Kuriata.

The MEDEA project, by its universal and timeless language of visual communication, is gathering artists from culturally distant spaces that are utilizing the language of art for overcoming the boundaries of the real and are enabling the receiver to enter the world of transcendence in unknown territories of beauty and reflection.

This year’s edition of the MEDEA Conference was realized under the patronage of the Rector of the Academy of Art in Szczecin, prof. Mirosława Jarmołowicz. The coordinator and originator of the project is prof. Andreas Guskos. It is not coincidental that the Hellenic space was selected to host these meetings. It’s profound philosophical genealogy, that is the cradle of European thought and culture seem to be the best space for enabling the return to the values that created our culture and the opening to the specific novum that is the forecast of technological advancement and intellectual development.
